At the start of the MotoGP testing in Sepang, the Avintia Racing team arrived with great hopes for a good three days of testing. Their FTR framed and Kawasaki powered bikes were ridden by Robertino Puetri and Jordi Torres, both seeking good times around the Sepang F1 Circuit. But, as fate would have it, the end of day one saw two blown engines and a team desperate to find a ride for the remaining time. After seeking a new bike from Kawasaki Malaysia, BikeART racing was available to loan an engine from a brand new bike to the team.
“It’s all about the passion” observed Steven Ong. “We had to do everything in our power to make sure the three days were productive. We had a brand new bike with an engine that fit the bill and we could help”. The Avintia team worked through the night of Tuesday 31st January to fit the new engine to a frame, run it in and then take slow laps to bring the engine up to peak performance.
Sharing the bike, Puetri and Torres both posted good times on day 3 of practice, with Puetri posting a 2:09 on a stock engine around the circuit. Returning to Sepang in the next MotoGP test scheduled for the end of February, the engine will return to BikeART.
“It all a matter of being in the right place at the right time”, notes Steven. Good fortunes to Avintia Racing.
